This week I’d thought I’d try to start a new feature – hopefully I’ll remember to do this weekly – showcasing some of the fantastic array of productions gracing stages across the West Midlands. Being Birmingham based I’m in a fortunate position (literally) to get to some great theatres hosting or producing theatre of all sorts. So new month, new blog name, new feature – kind of makes sense!
BIRMINGHAM HIPPODROME – Coppelia
So last week saw the end of a short visit from the smash hit musical Hairspray, this week it welcomes back Birmingham Royal Ballet (BRB) for 7 performances of the ballet ‘Coppélia’. About a toy maker and his living doll, the ballet has won rave reviews when it has been performed previously.
Opening Tuesday and running until Saturday, tickets can be booked here.
NEW ALEXANDRA THEATRE – Carnaby Street
A new jukebox musical based round the exploits of the world famous London street Carnaby Street opens at the Alex tonight and runs till Saturday. Including hits such as ‘You Really Got Me’, ‘Keep on Running’ and ‘Sweets for my Sweet’ the iconic sixties tunes should keep you entertained. The production features a talented cast of actor musicians – one of which fact fans, I went to a youth theatre with and performed in shows with!
Running from tonight till Saturday, tickets can be booked here.
CRESCENT THEATRE – The Glass Menagerie (Studio) & Footloose (Main House)
In the intimate Studio of the Crescent Theatre this week is the classic Tennessee Williams play The Glass Menagerie. Described as a beautiful and haunting play and early feedback praising the performances and production alike this production is bound to please fans of classic American literature old and new.
Running until Saturday (no performance tonight), tickets can be booked here.
Up in the Main House this week is visiting company ‘Great Barr Musical Theatre Company’ who bring the musical Footloose to Birmingham. Filled with the classic films from the original film and energetic dance routines it is bound to make you leave the theatre at the end of the night with a smile on your face.
Opening Tuesday night and running until Saturday, tickets can be booked here.
And a trip outside Birmingham now to Wolverhampton!
WOLVERHAMPTON GRAND – Ghost the Musical
When this show was in London I got the chance to see it and fell in love with it all. An amazing and magical production. The tour contains almost all of the magic and illusion as well as the beautiful songs and music. If you can’t get to Wolverhampton during this visit the show returns to the Midlands over Christmas when it visits the Alex.
Opens Tuesday and runs until Saturday 15th June, tickets can be booked here.
